Greece day 2

We had arranged for a tour of Athens and Sounion. Our driver was there waiting for us right on time in a 15 passenger bright red van just for the three of us. He had planned on bringing a smaller black van, but a funeral bumped us and we got the spacious van that was delightful especially since we were in it for almost nine hours. He drove us to the Temple of Zeus and Hadirans Arch. We were able to see the changing of the guard with the marching band at the tomb of the unknown solider. Then quickly to the Acropolis and the Parthenon. We were just barely ahead of the cruise ships and other tour groups. He stopped by an area that had some boats and showed us some reconstructed boat that was used during the Olympics of a Spartian boat.

Off to Sounion we went to see the temple of Poseidon. This is a temple at the south most point of the island. Back to Athens we went.our driver runs marathons so he showed us some of his medals from some of his races and explained where the name marathon comes from, talking to him brings the movie” my Greek Wedding” to mind with the father explaining how all the English language has Greek history. We saw the stadium where the marathon ends, another changing of the guard by the presidential residence. Off to a mountain top to look down on Athens and we called it quits. What a long day in the van, but totally worth the time!
